PostHeaderIcon Does anyone know the names of any really well-written morbid fairy tales?

I really like reading morbid Fairy Tales (like The Red Shoes, for example). But I don’t know the names of very many. Can any one help me find some good ones?

Try the Struwwelpeter stories - but beware, you might never sleep again! They are on Project Gutenberg.

The original Grimm Brother’s fairy tales are very morbid. Cinderella’s step sisters cut off parts of there feet and got their eyes pecked out. Rumpelstiltskin (?) ripped both of his arms out… there are just so many. They aren’t as scary when read in English but something about the original german version was rather morbid.

Well, there were these two story writers from the 1800’s named the Grimm Brothers. They were german fairy tale writers. Many of their stories might sound familiar. Cinderella, Handel and Gretal, and many other stories were written by them. Check them out. The original stories are pretty morbid.
